So, what is AlyCHAT?
AlyCHAT is AHAS's own Palace server, where you can come and talk with other AHAS Forum members in real time!
So, what's a Palace?
The Palace is a free two dimensional graphical chat application that enables users to interact with each other through a variety of mediums. These mediums include expressive avatars, chat, and sounds. It hit the Internet in 1996 and charged users a fee for a lifetime membership.
What? I have to pay for this?
No! When the "dot-com" crash hit in 2000, the owners of The Palace ceased support immediately. Other groups, such as The Palace Legacy Project, a privately funded public service, spung up and continue to run The Palace and attract new users.
How do I get on AlyCHAT?
First, you need to download a Palace Client. Clients are avaliable for Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP and Macintosh (68k and PowerPC). Download it from them and get your free registration number. Once you install the software, run it and enter your number. Now you're ready to go!
I've run the Palace Client and it takes me to some weird screen. How do I get to AlyCHAT?
Windows Instructions
- Click on File in the toolbar
- Click on Connect to a Palace
- A window labelled "Connect" will appear. Enter 68.76.161.219 in the first box
- The second box should read "9998". If not, put that in the second box
- Click Ok
- If AlyCHAT is up, you should be connected right away!
Macintosh Instructions
- Click on File in the Menu
- Click on Connect....
- Type in a nickname in the first box and enter 68.76.161.219 in the box below it
- Click the Connect button
- If AlyCHAT is up, you should be connected right away!
AHAS said there were people chatting on AlyCHAT, but I log in and no one's there!
The program that displays how many people are on AlyCHAT checks AlyCHAT every five minutes, so you may have just missed someone. Don't worry, someone will be on soon! Hang around for a bit and perhaps someone will see that you are on AlyCHAT and come visit with you!
